The move is in response to dozens of attacks against U.S. bases in the region.
U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said the U.S. has conducted air attacks on a training facility and a safe house in eastern Syria that an Iranian-supported paramilitary group used. The actions are in response to at least 46 attacks on U.S. bases and forces in Iraq and Syria since October 17.
Secretary Austin said, “The President has no higher priority than the safety of U.S. personnel, and he directed today’s action to make clear that the United States will defend itself, its personnel, and its interests.”
According to the Pentagon, at least 56 American troops have been injured as a result of the attacks, with some of the injuries including traumatic brain injury.
The Pentagon deputy press secretary stated last week, “We want to make sure that we can contain this conflict to Israel and Hamas. We are not and have not seen this conflict widen beyond that region, beyond Israel. It’s important to remember that we are sending a message and that that message has been received.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For wisdom for Defense Secretary Austin as he oversees the response to attacks against U.S. troops in the Middle East.
- For General Kurilla to seek God’s guidance as he heads U.S. Central Command.
- For the president and his military advisors as they monitor and respond to increasing tensions and attacks.
